Have you ever searched “medical writing course” or “how to get into medical writing” or “how to learn more about medical writing” or “how to write a clinical study report?” If so, you are not alone.

I find that you have 3 types of people researching the field of medical writing. Those who are not yet in the field but want to know more, those who are new to the field and want to learn more, and those who would like to make a career transition and want to know more.  All three of these individuals have one thing in common…they want to learn, know, and understand more about the field of medical writing.

I was in a similar situation when I was finishing up my PhD. I knew I didn’t want to go into academia but I wasn’t sure which career direction was right for me. So, like many PhD graduates, I went on to complete a 5-year long postdoctoral fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  With the support of UNC-Chapel Hill’s Postdoctoral Association, I journeyed through many opportunities and learned that medical writing was the best career option for me. However, I was hindered from asking myself “How do I get into the field of medical writing?”

Whether you are new to medical writing, making a career transition into the field of medical writing, or know absolutely nothing about medical writing, I know how difficult it can be to find relevant information about medical writing. But most importantly, I know how extremely difficult it can be to get hands-on clinical and regulatory document writing experience. This is why I founded Medical Writing University.

There are three main ways to enter into the field of medical writing: 1) through a medical writing internship, 2) by utilizing your network/referral system, and 3) by partaking in medical writing course(s). I’ve utilized all three methods and have found that what delineates a successful career transition from an unsuccessful career transition is hands-on, real-world document writing experience. With this in mind, Medical Writing University was founded.

Medical Writing University offers comprehensive hands-on medical writing courses that concentrate on the competencies and practices in the field of clinical and regulatory medical writing related to authoring clinical study reports, protocols, narratives, and other documents in the pharmaceutical industry.  Our courses are designed to meet the needs of learners at their level while advancing them through core competencies that are standard in the field of medical writing. Our curriculum is based on the International Council for Harmonisation (ICH), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and common style guides.

The purpose of our medical writing courses is to provide participants with an opportunity to gain document authoring experience through competent instruction and hands-on experience.
